A Zoho Books alternative
for more than one business.
Zoho Books is inexpensive and deeply customizable. With several businesses, each organization is priced separately and Zoho Books has no view across them. Here is the comparison, including where Zoho is the better choice.

What Zoho Books is
A fair description first.
Zoho Books is cloud accounting within the wider Zoho suite, with a free plan for businesses under $50,000 in revenue and paid plans priced per organization. It connects natively to Zoho CRM, Inventory, Payroll, and Analytics.
Each organization is subscribed separately, and by default a user can create up to five organizations with one email address. You can switch between them, but Zoho's own help says "you cannot monitor the activities of all the organizations in one place." Consolidated reports come from Zoho Analytics, only for organizations in the same currency.
What it does well
A REAL FREE PLAN
Businesses under $50,000 in annual revenue can use the free plan indefinitely, with bank reconciliation included.
DEEP CUSTOMIZATION
Custom modules, workflow rules, approval workflows, and custom functions from Premium up; inventory and warehouses on Elite.
THE ZOHO SUITE
Native connections to Zoho CRM, Inventory, Payroll, and Analytics — a strong reason to stay if you already run on Zoho.
Price
What each costs.

With several businesses
Where it gets harder.
Priced per organization
Five businesses on Professional is $200–$250 a month; Zoho Payroll is also priced per organization.
No view across organizations
Zoho Books itself has no combined view: "The feature is currently not available."
Consolidation is a separate product
Consolidated reports need Zoho Analytics — included at Ultimate or bought separately — and only across organizations sharing a currency.
Portfolio runs up to five companies on one subscription, each with its own ledger, chart of accounts, bank connections and statements, with cross-entity monitoring across all of them. Additional entities are $29 a month each.
Stay with Zoho Books if

- You need custom modules, inventory with warehouses, or approval workflows.
Questions
Before you switch.
Is Zoho Books cheaper than VisiBooks?
For one business, usually: Professional is $40–$50 a month and there is a free plan under $50,000 in revenue. For five businesses the totals are close — about $200 a month on Zoho Professional billed annually against $169 for VisiBooks Portfolio billed annually.
Can Zoho Books consolidate several organizations?
Through Zoho Analytics, which is included at the Ultimate plan or bought separately, and only for organizations in the same currency as the base organization.
Does VisiBooks produce consolidated statements?
Create a workspace and add your companies first, then view their P&L and balance sheet in the desktop app or API. Tagged intercompany pairs are eliminated only when both sides balance; mismatches remain visible and the report is labelled combined. No web consolidation view, consolidated cash-flow statement, or currency conversion yet.
How do I move from Zoho Books?
Export your chart of accounts and journal history from Zoho Books, then import them into VisiBooks from CSV, reviewing each account before it is created.
Run every company from one system.
Portfolio is $199 a month for five entities. The free plan is a single manual ledger — useful for seeing how VisiBooks works, not for running several businesses — so look at Portfolio if more than one company is why you are here.
