Digits alternative

A Digits alternative for owners
with more than one business.

Digits is an AI-native general ledger that does the categorization and reconciliation itself. With several businesses, each is a separate subscription. Here is the comparison, including where Digits is the better choice.

What Digits is

A fair description first.

Digits is AI-native accounting software for US businesses and the accounting firms that serve them. Its AI categorizes transactions, drafts reconciliations, and routes uncertain items to a checklist rather than guessing; bill pay and invoicing are built in.

Digits supports several businesses under one account, switched from a dropdown, but "each business or location would need its own Digits subscription." We found no Digits documentation for consolidated statements across businesses.

With several businesses

Where it gets harder.

A subscription per business

Five businesses on Core is $500 a month.

Shared bank logins

Digits documents that Plaid and Chase do not support linking the same login to multiple connections; the workaround is a separate login per entity.

No documented consolidation

We found no Digits documentation for consolidated statements or intercompany eliminations.

Portfolio runs up to five companies on one subscription, each with its own ledger, chart of accounts, bank connections and statements, with cross-entity monitoring across all of them. Additional entities are $29 a month each.

Stay with Digits if

When Digits is the better choice.

  • You run one business and want AI to do the categorization and reconciliation, with a firm reviewing.
  • Your accounting firm already works in Digits.
  • You want bill pay and invoicing built in with published fees.

Questions

Before you switch.

Is Digits cheaper than VisiBooks?

For one business, Digits Essentials is $65 a month against $79 for VisiBooks Operator. For five businesses, five Digits Core subscriptions are $500 a month against $199 for VisiBooks Portfolio.

Does Digits do the bookkeeping for me?

Its AI does the repetitive categorization and reconciliation and routes uncertain items to a checklist. Human accounting comes from independent partner firms, not from Digits.

How is VisiBooks different on AI?

VisiBooks does not sell its own model. You connect the agent you already use through MCP, scope what it may do per entity, and review, pause, or revoke it — with no VisiBooks charge per token or action.

Does VisiBooks produce consolidated statements?

Create a workspace and add your companies first, then view their P&L and balance sheet in the desktop app or API. Tagged intercompany pairs are eliminated only when both sides balance; mismatches remain visible and the report is labelled combined. No web consolidation view, consolidated cash-flow statement, or currency conversion yet.

Run every company from one system.

Portfolio is $199 a month for five entities. The free plan is a single manual ledger — useful for seeing how VisiBooks works, not for running several businesses — so look at Portfolio if more than one company is why you are here.
